For our 2nd Wednesday Speaker Series in August, Robin Narruhn, PhD, MN, RN joined us to discuss structural barriers to health care access for the Marshallese in Washington State and the historical trauma that underlies this inequity. 70 years ago, the US dropped two nuclear bombs on the Bikini Atoll. And that was just the beginning…“experiments” with thermonuclear detonations continued in the Marshall Islands for another 12 years! As you can imagine, this unleashed a Pandora’s box of extreme health issues. Robin Narruhn is a nurse researcher and associate professor at Seattle University. Her research is centered on health equity in immigrant communities. She is on the Board of Pacific Islanders Community Association, King County Board of Health, and a member of Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility.
