Non-profit Health Care for All - WA is holding their first rally and lobby day in Olympia, with a Senate hearing on their bill #SB5701, in their efforts to pass universal health care coverage as the majority of Americans now support a single payer model. Premiums in Washington are expected to increase an average of 36% in 2018 due to the destabilizing effects of the current administration’s cessation of subsidy payments, and another potential 10% as a result of the recent tax bill passed by Congress.

HCFA-WA’s bills, HB1026 and SB5701, propose publicly financed, privately delivered healthcare through the creation of the Washington Health Security Trust (WHST) - allowing Washington residents the freedom to choose their healthcare provider and relieving them of the economic burden of increasing private insurance premiums.

Program Director Bevin McLeod of Seattle states, “Washingtonians from across the state will attend the rally and lobby day to demonstrate their belief in both the necessity of universal healthcare and its viability in our state. We may only have sixty days this
session, but I believe we can get something done, and it is economically and morally imperative that we offer a sustainable solution for Washington residents.”

The Senate hearing will be during the Health and Long Term Care Committee, 10am-noon in the JA Cherberg Building, Senate Hearing Room 2. A rally with speakers is scheduled on Tuesday, January 16th on the Capitol steps from 1-2:30pm and is open to the public.
