|

For June, we welcomed Bruce Miyahara, MHA, former WA State Secretary of Health & co-founder of International Community Health Services, and Gary Goldbaum, MD, former Health Officer & Director of the Snohomish Health District, for Health Care is a Human Right: A model built in Seattle's International District.

The International Community Health Services (ICHS) opened its doors in 1975 and continues to offer services to the Asian and Pacific Islander population of King County. Bruce, a co-founder and the first director of ICHS shared this founding story of the struggle for equality and social justice in health care.

From 1993 to 1998, Bruce served as Secretary for the Washington State Department of Health during the development of its initial Public Health Improvement Plan. Prior to this role, Bruce was the Chief Administrative Officer/Deputy Director for Public Health Seattle & King County, and he held many program and division management positions during his 15-year tenure in public health. In the early 1970’s, Bruce was a founder and first Executive Director of the International Community Health Services, which provides health services for the non-English speaking Asian and Pacific Islander population of King County. Bruce holds a Master of Health Administration from the University of Washington.
