In this edition of the e.Bulletin: General election voter's guide and call to action, request for volunteer bookkeeper, and more

The HCFA-WA General Election Voter's Guide is Here - Help Us Reach the Stubborn LDs!

The Primary is done and now we are down to considering two candidates in each race. Do your candidates support health care reform? Check out our General Election Edition Voter's Guide to find out. To achieve state-based universal health care coverage, it is going to take solid legislative support. Now is a golden opportunity to support candidates who will be Loud and Proud for health care reform and to pressure candidates who aren't there yet.
WA
As we go to press, 64 candidates from 41 Legislative districts (LDs) have participated in our Candidate Survey -- that's 84% of the legislative districts.

However, it's crickets -- no response --  from these eight LDs:
5th LD  - Central East King County 24th LD - Clallam, Jefferson & N. Grays Harbor County
11th LD - Tukwila, Part of S. Seattle, Renton & Kent 28th LD - SW Pierce County, University Place, Lakewood, and West Tacoma
12th LD - Chelan, Douglas & parts of Okanogan & Grant County 29th LD - Parts of Pierce County and South Tacoma
13th LD - Kittitas, Lincoln & part of Grant County 40th LD - San Juan County/Parts of Skagit and Whatcom County

Maybe they aren't aware their constituents are affected by the health care crisis? Read on to learn how you can help.

Spring Into Action! Call or Email Your Candidates & Demand Universal Health Care Coverage

Take 10 minutes to Contact Your Candidates. Check out the HCFA-WA Voter's Guide and if your candidates have not participated, please call or email them using the campaign contact information here.

1) Let them know you are a voting constituent and that health care crisis is a top concern for you this election.

2) If they haven't already, you would like them to participate in the HCFA-WA Candidate Questionnaire -- a short, easy online survey awaiting them in their inbox from [email protected]. Extra credit for calling candidates who have responded and thanking them for their support or letting them know their response doesn't represent your views.

3) Ask them to support HCFA-WA legislation moving forward.

4) Spread the word about the Voter's Guide to Washington friends and family and share our post on Facebook or our tweet on Twitter

Let us know how it goes at [email protected]. THANK YOU!

Healthcare News You Can Use

"My Focus Should Be Staying Healthy and Preventing Another Heart Attack"

The latest installment of the Kaiser Health News and NPR Bill of the Month series highlights an outrageous medical billing story that could happen to anyone.

Drew Calver, a high school teacher, swim coach, and young father in Austin, Texas, suffered a heart attack, went to the nearest ER and spent four days in the hospital. The insurer paid $55,000 and then Drew was billed for  $109,000. The bill was full of padded line items such as a $200 blood test.  After this story was brought to light -- a year after the hospitalization -- the hospital lowered the bill to $332.29! Read the story here. See the CBS This Morning coverage here,

Texas Judge Could End the Affordable Care Act Any Day Now. The fight to end the ACA has moved from Congress to state courts. Twenty conservative states have filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the ACA. A federal judge in Texas will rule on the constitutionality -- including pre-existing condition protections, a hallmark of the ACA. Meanwhile, Maryland has filed an injunction that would require the government to continue enforcing the ACA.
